- Apple manage to hire somebody who has absolutely no understanding of XML to work on iPhoto, and even more amazingly block every browser except Safari despite extending an open standard.
- Flickr lets you search for Creative Commons licensed photos – oddly, this is not linked to from their main website that I can see. Useful for when you’re looking for some nice pics to brighten up your work. Remember to respect the attribution/commercial usage/derivations requirements though!
- The BBC covers Second Life, with a full-length streaming Newsnight report – done inside SL itself.
- Vista 64 won’t load unsigned code into kernel mode – and about time too. I was expecting this ever since I read that x64 drivers couldn’t patch the syscall table. It’s undoubtably the right thing to do: I only wish they could find a way to achieve the same thing for 32 bit systems over time. Of course a whole ton of people who don’t understand how hardware security works will jump on this as “evil Microsoft controlling my computer”, but as Microsoft isn’t actually charging anything for certificates themselves that might be a bit hard to prove …
